Not entirely sure why the possibility of such should be surprising to people. Seems like common sense to me that whales should have a basic understanding of what’s happening undersea, considering the fact that the ocean is their natural home environment.
I believe the real issue at hand to be why humans feel so inclined to enslave (or “domesticate”) non-human animals to gain something perceived as beneficial to “humanity”. Why not learn ways to befriend & share information harmoniously, as opposed to making such effort to subdue?
